Appearance:

Violet’s natural hair color is black but she has being dying her hair since she was 17. For a few months she dyed it an apricot color but settled on lavender. She prefers to dye her hair because it helps her recognize and see the color in the mirror and because she likes it to stand out.

She can put on most of her makeup by herself but she needs help with her eyeliner.

The color of her iris is dark brown but the gray color is her expanded pupils.

Violet may look fit but she barely exercises so her body is softer and without very defined muscle. Her mother is big on body-shaming so she often complains about Violet having “fat” thighs and small breasts.

She has a tiny mole on her nose.

 

Background Story:

Seolha was born into a wealthy, conservative Catholic family that owns a multi-industry, “Kimbyte” located in Los Seoul. Her parents married without love, it was rather a merger between two wealthy families. Due to a strong Korean tradition of preferring sons over daughters, her mother Theodora tried excessively to give birth to a son but had Violet instead. Ever since her younger brother, Jinho, was born, her parents took interest in only him and not their daughter.

Seolha lost her eyesight due to a cataract when she was only 6. It was entirely treatable and preventable if her parents had known early on but at the time they were on a business trip and paid no attention. Feeling guilty about Seolha losing her sight, they bought her expensive gifts and material things to keep her happy but it was more so to make themselves feel better. The best thing they did was hire personal maids for her and one in particular, Ming Diaz, became a mother figure to her.

Because of her blindness, her parents never accepted her for who she is therefore her self esteem was always low. Though her mother and father allowed her to use a credit card and continue taking violin lessons, they still avoided taking their daughter in public. Her grandmother often called her lame or useless. She never felt like being loved, she rather felt like she's a burden to her family.

She went to a boarding school in Los Seoul where she was bullied for years until she finally made a call to her parents. Without discussion, they got her an apartment in San Fransokyo and transferred her to a high school in the area. Kids in San Fransokyo weren’t as mean as those in boarding school, but Seolha was never good at making friends. She spent about a month alone until she met Tadashi Hamada through a group project and they became friends. As they spent time together, they became close and eventually went to prom together. With Tadashi’s help, she was able to find ways to love herself but she never told her parents of their relationship.

The times she spent with Tadashi were the happiest moment of her life. The Lucky Cat Café was her favorite place to be and Hiro and Aunt Cass were like a family to her. She met the gang after Tadashi started college at SFIT and they soon gave her the nickname “Violet” due to her hair color.

Tadashi and Violet dated for 2 years until her parents found out and, in an outrage, accused her of having premarital sex and disapproved of her being able to see him any longer. Because she didn’t stand up to her parents, and knew that they would do anything to keep them apart, Violet left San Fransokyo without telling Tadashi. He spent several weeks searching for her until he happened upon a picture of her in the newspaper.  It was a photo of her attending a debutante ball in Los Seoul. Devastated and confused, he assumed that he wasn’t good enough for her family and gave up his search. Violet lost contact with the others so upon hearing Tadashi’s side of the story, Hiro and the other’s blamed her for his unhappiness.

Now attending a Music Academy in Los Seoul, Violet began playing violin in an orchestra. She kept a friendly distance from all other colleagues and tried her best to forget Tadashi. She attended social parties her parents brought her to, and went on blind dates with wealthy guys that her parents had picked out. She lived like a puppet until she heard the shocking news of Tadashi’s death months after the incident had happened.

Her parents had paid off the maids, Mrs. Diaz in particular, to keep the information from reaching Violet. Having never been more furious and upset, Violet lashed out at her parents and the maid and soon packed what she could and left her home, crying. She headed to San Fransokyo to apologize to his family and friends for what had happened and hoped they could forgive her.

Would the gang accept her apology? Would Hiro forgive her for hurting Tadashi?

  Her parents were devout Catolics and taught her to keep her chastity before marriage. Though she doesn't consider herself as a religious person, this strict rule of their parents affected her and caused inner conflict especially when she was together with Tadashi. Tadashi couldn't fully understand her but respected her decision. and they didn't have sex (they almost had but never too far) until they broke up.

  Her family’s biggest secret is that they’ve been making mothers have abortion when baby was identified as female. If this disgusting “tradition” didn’t exist, Violet could’ve had older sisters. And Violet could've been born because the doctor mistook her as a boy.

  After she found out Tadashi's death, she ends up in a bar hooking up with a complete stranger and wakes up in the same bed next morning. It was an act out of shock, which she deeply regrets it.

  Her family hates her hair.

  She learned how to put on make up and walking in heels in the Association of Blind. And for your information, blind people can like to wear make up.
